Fluency of Form
A beautiful hand stitched wall art panel , mounted and framed in a classic black frame. The framed piece measures 72x34cms
Here's what Janet says about working on this piece;
I made a graphite drawing on paper in a zig-zag form exploring gradations of tone around pebbles and printed leaves.
I liked the subtle variations and it inspired me to experiment with black and white fabric and thread to see if I could work with a single stitch to achieve a similar quality. I used buttonhole stitch in its open form, commonly known as blanket stitch and worked around edges of blankets. With a variety of white and grey ordinary cotton sewing threads on cotton fabric, I sought to change the tones by over stitching to lighten or darken the image.
Stitching is a slow process but provides a meditative state as the flow of stitch progresses across the fabric especially if the stitch is repeated in the same form without too much variation.
